The grade slips have arrived

The grade slips are ready. Please pick your slips up at the Secretariat of our chair, room 505 in building 45. Opening hours: Monday to Thursday 1:30 pm–3:30 pm; Friday 8:30 am–noon.

Oral reexam

The oral reexam on December 20i22 will take place in room 501 of building 45.

Contents

The course will explain data networks, mainly the Internet. Internet protocols will be used to motivate basic concepts in data networks, as the internet is today's data network par excellence. We will follow the book by Kurose/Ross, with some additions taken mainly from Bertsekas/Gallager.

Dates

Data networking will be offered as a block course from September 6 until October 8, with a pause from September 27 until October 1.

Every morning, there will be a two-hour lecture (11:00–13:00 in building 45, room HS 002); almost every day, there will be exercises or an additional lecture (9:00–11:00 or 14:00–16:00). The lecture will be given in English; exercises are in English and German.

Grading

The final examination will be held on October 12, from 11:15 to 14:15. Please come to lecture hall 1 in building 27 around 11:05. Conditions for admittance:

During the exercises, you successfully demonstrate a calculation on the blackboard.
At the start of a part of the lectures, there will be a short quiz (2–3 multiple choice questions). You will need 50% of the points for the quiz questions.

The grade will be based on the examination. If you answer more quiz questions correctly, you may earn a small bonus on the grade.

Reexamination possibility (only for participants of DN during WS 03/04)

The following applies only to participants of DN in WS 03/04, who were admitted to the exam in March '04, but did not pass (either because they did not participate or because they didn't reach sufficient points).

You now have the following re-exam possibility: you will be admitted to the final exam of DN in October '04 without any additional precondition. This re-exam possibility comes without guarantees. In particular, the material covered in the October '04 exam may not be identical to the one presented last winter/spring in DN.

If you would like to register for the exam, please send a short email with your Matrikel number to Lijun Zhang. We will then inform you about the precise date/time on this webpage.
